Microsoft Announces Windows AutoPilot; It is a cloud-based solution to help companies configure their new Windows 10 PCs.
Microsoft announced Windows AutoPilot, a new cloud-based feature set that simplifies the deployment and management of new Windows 10 PCs along with improvements to Mobile Device Management and the new Device Health features in Windows Analytics. In large organizations, every time a new PC is purchased, it can not be delivered directly to employees. Network administrators generally configure the device with a custom Windows image as needed by their organizations.
Windows AutoPilot Deployment is a new cloud service that will allow network administrators to customize the Windows 10 setup experience using a cloud-reset configuration and delivering a self-service distribution experience with new Windows 10 devices.
Windows AutoPilot Deployment also works with the existing services of Azure Active Directory and Intune for Mobile Device (MDM). End users just need to log in using their business credentials on the new PC. Windows AutoPilot Deployment will fully configure the PC including access to Azure Active Directory, transformation into Windows 10 Enterprise, Office 365 app install, and more.
Microsoft also intends to introduce the Windows AutoPilot Deployment program, which will allow OEMs, distributors, and retailers to connect devices to an organization. The Surface Team will test the Windows AutoPilot Deployment program this summer with selected selected customers and partners.
With Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Microsoft has planned to implement other features related to Windows AutoPilot, such as, for example, an advanced reset that resets completely configured computers.
With Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, Microsoft will allow organizations to deploy and configure Windows Defender Application Guard, as well as to configure basic security settings to facilitate the use of recommended MDM security settings for enterprise devices. Microsoft will also be able to configure Windows Firewall rules. Microsoft also announced that they are bringing MDM support for devices that are connected to a domain with Active Directory.
