It was certainly a surprise, unexpected and perfectly managed by Adobe at the Adobe MAX event 2017. Creative Cloud 2017 is here and, albeit in part because not all applications have been updated, the news are certainly many and drugs. improvements have been made in Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, Stock and Typekit, as well as adding some features "under the hood" for all other applications (except Lightroom for now). What's more, the manufacturer has also introduced Project Felix, a real help in creating photorealistic images using 2D and 3D elements. In this news we will deal with all that strictly the field of photography and video.
Photoshop
Photoshop improvements are definitely marked by customer usage. The mean Adobe is to simplify all the infinite possibilities that the program offers. In Creative Cloud 2017 was introduced a new search bar, similar to the one that offers MacOS with Spotlight, can quickly find tools, panels, menus, photos on Adobe Stock, help and tutorial. In addition to this, known tools such as Liquify (translated into Italian as "Fluidifica") and the Face-Aware Liquify (presented in one of the last Photoshop updates), are much faster and allow new targeted changes for each eye, a box dedicated to the preview of the effect and the ability to leverage specific widget within the work area.
As mentioned, there are currently no news for Lightroom, the well-known program for cataloging photos and more. Lightroom is currently stopped to version 2015, therefore, it is reasonable to expect a major update very soon we hope not too late to arrive.
Adobe Stock & Typekit
We told you about the Adobe Stock at the time of its introduction, and thanks to the latest updates, the search system images stock was even more integrated within the Creative Cloud programs, especially Photoshop and Lightroom. The service has received a major upgrade, thanks to the partnership with Reuters. It is in fact now possible to access the archive of Reuters directly from Adobe Stock, a feature that allows the user to find useful material for news, sporting events and entertainment in general. This partership is certainly very important for the future of Adobe Stock which, thanks to the archive of the infinite historical agency, will definitely ignite the interest of many users.
The news does not end there: the service now has a new visual search feature that lets you find images more easily than before. The demonstration at the event showed how it is possible to find similar images among them taking advantage of precise user-requested features, such as a particular background, reflection or scenario. The new "visual search" will come very soon, within Photoshop, currently it is only available through the service website. The improvements of Adobe Typekit seem lower but equally important: by partnering with Frere-Jones Type, Type Network / Font Bureau and Emigre, purchase and manage individual fonts within the marketplace will be even easier.
Felix Project
Felix Project is a new design tool that allows the user to combine two-dimensional and three-dimensional elements in order to create abstract compositions, product photographs or detailed scenes. The demo at the event showed the audience how easy it was to overlay the file of a label to a three-dimensional object such as a bottle and then add both objects in a two-dimensional environment in order to create a mockup or a realistic picture that can be used for advertising purposes.
In short, it is an interesting tool that in the future will avoid the photograph still life allowing a construction "home made" product photography. The beta of Project Felix will be available later this year.
Collaboration in the cloud
In addition to updates for applications, we were also shown improvements for online collaboration in the development of a project, always pivotal feature of Creative Cloud. Online collaboration has in fact been extended to programs like Adobe XD (Experience Design) and Premiere Pro which, via the cloud, will allow entire teams or designers what is called "co-editing", a collaborative installation or post-production. We do not know many details about this feature, especially considering the internet bandwidth required to handle online video. We will learn more from the beginning of 2017, the period when the beta of this service will be available.
In addition to these updates, were also numerous announcements about Adobe products for mobile. For example, all of the previously released mobile applications for iOS, like Photoshop Fix, Photoshop Sketch and Comp CC, are now also available on Android.
