Between July 2015 and October 2016, Razer has got their hands on two companies (Ouya and THX) working in the entertainment industry. The well-known manufacturer of computers and accessories for the gaming has now announced the acquisition of Nextbit, a startup in San Francisco that he had presented the Robin smartphone in September 2015. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.


Razer has stressed that the 30 employees of Nextbit will continue to work as an independent division. Tom Moss, CEO of Nextbit, said that the team will receive more resources than had so far. Future plans were not disclosed, but it is likely that Robin will have a successor. Nextbit announced that smartphone sales and accessories have been discontinued. The users, however, will continue to receive support. The distribution of security patches will continue until February 2018. By the first quarter is expected the release of Android 7.0 Nougat which will also include improvements to the autonomy, currently quite low.

Razer, a world leader in the gaming industry, has decided to expand his interests also in the smartphone market. It is not clear if the company will limit itself to support Nextbit only economically, or if he decides to put his mark on upcoming devices. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed, but experts believe that Nextbit has a value of about $ 20 million.

The Robin, retails for $ 399, can be called a "cloud phone". The main difference compared to other smartphone storage management.
