The Document Foundation announces LibreOffice 5.3, one of the richest release of new features in the application history. The office suite is immediately available for Windows, MacOS and Linux, and is ready for installation in the cloud.LibreOffice 5.3 is a significant step forward in the evolution of software: provides an introduction to new features like the online version with collaborative editing, which improve the competitive position of the application, and at the same time provides a long series of incremental improvements that make the program more stable, interoperable and user friendly.
"LibreOffice is supported by a great developer community," said Michael Meeks, a member of The Document Foundation board. "In 2010, few would bet on our ability to attract a sufficient number of developers to ensure the success of the project, which is based on a source code large. In six years, we have attracted more than 1,100 new developers, and thanks to the size of this community, in the last two years we have had an average of about 300 people working on the source code. "The salient features of LibreOffice 5.3
LibreOffice 5.3 offers a number of exciting new features in each area: a new multi-platform text display engine that uses HarfBuzz to improve the consistency of documents between different operating systems, languages and alphabets; Support a revised menu, with links to guides and support forums, for a better user experience; and improvements to the import / export filters to new formats and legacy of MS Office documents.
Writer introduces Styles Table, to set the appearance so that it will be retained even in the event of changes; The Sidebar adds the Page tab, to configure parameters without the need to access a separate dialog; and Go To Page window allows you to navigate through the large documents quickly.
Calc provides a new set of cell styles, with a greater variety and more intuitive names than in the past; in new installations, wildcards in the formulas become the default option instead of regular expressions, to improve compatibility with other spreadsheet; and the area for typing text allows to reduce the number of functions that are searched, to find more quickly the correct one.
Impress, opening, shows the dialog box for the selection of models, for faster startup; and in edit mode of the slide design in the Sidebar displays the Slide Properties tab, which avoids resorting to the menu.
The list of the most significant new feature is available in a separate document , and is presented in a series of short videos .
LibreOffice 5.3 has also been enhanced in the "engine" level, thanks to the work of hundreds of volunteers. This results in an open source office suite that is easier to develop, maintain and improve. And if all that is not visible to users, it is very important for use in the enterprise.
