According to Microsoft, and Research 451 more companies rely on different cloud providers. What are the main reasons behind this trend.
A more or less regular basis we can speak of the future and of the cloud market trends. According to research 451 Research related to 2016 and commissioned by Microsoft, at least 1/3 of large companies prefer not to rely solely on one cloud provider.
And in relation to the European market, it seems that this trend is also driven by the poor reliability of service providers for 1/4 of respondents provide performance guarantees and inadequate support services (source: Ovum).
The figure just quoted is nevertheless part of a bigger picture, worth draw the erroneous conclusion that the average level of the provider is far below expectations. Underlying the find even simple business needs multi-cloud trend: especially for medium-sized and large companies, made up of several departments, focus on a single cloud provider is an option which displays a number of risks such as prolonged periods of downtime, outages and the dreaded vendor lock-in. Also entrust their mission-critical data in one provider reduces the bargaining power of the enterprise - the conclusion I have reached even the Apple summits.
Although the multi-cloud strategy looks like a sensible choice for many business enterprises because it places protected from certain risks, however, it exposes to other issues such as regulations concerning the processing of sensitive data (General Data Protection Regulation). The question is felt particularly in Europe (which has already had occasion to legislate) and is a major concern for businesses: the archiving of on-site data allows compliance with the dictates of the regulations but on the other hand hinders situations where it is necessary to work abroad - in areas where there are not yet clear regulations about. How to behave and act in these situations?
Another hurdle to face is related to the possible displacement of applications and / or data from one cloud platform. While providers fact endeavor to encourage in every way the migration of on premise applications in their cloud platforms, it is also true that other customers do not like to give in to the competition.
