Amazon's Alexa and Google Assistant will soon have a new competitor. Line Corporation has announced at Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona its digital assistant Clova, short for Cloud Virtual Assistant. The Japanese company has created an entire ecosystem with apps and services that will help integrate the assistant into different devices. One of the first products will be Wave, a smart speaker with capabilities similar to those of Google and Amazon Echo Home.
The artificial intelligence-based platform, which will also be accessible to developers and manufacturers of third walls, offers all the functionality of a digital assistant. The interaction between Clova and the outside world is via an interface that allows you to recognize voices, faces and actions. The data is sent to the cloud, where executes complex machine learning algorithms that allow the processing of various input types. The virtual assistant can then respond to user requests through a natural language.
Line did not provide many details, but it seems obvious the ability to ask questions about the weather, make online purchases, hear the latest news and your favorite music. Clova recognize several Asian languages, including Japanese, Chinese and Korean. As you can see in the video, Line will integrate the assistant into smartphones, tablets, cars, headphones and speakers.
The smart speaker Wave, available in Japan and Korea by the summer, will also allow you to manage IoT devices in the smart home. Face smart display will celebrate by next winter. Clova will later be integrated into third-party products, including those of Sony and LG, and distributed around the world.
