Google has just updated its application of online storage for photos and videos. Now you can upload to cloud our faster multimedia content, thanks to a new algorithm used.
If you also own a poor connection, you will definitely come across some "difficulties" to load your photos and videos to Google Photos. In Italy upload connections are certainly not very good, in fact, we often find ourselves with a few tens of kilobytes per second. Using cloud services with these connections become almost impossible, but perhaps Google has found a partial solution to the problem.
With the new algorithm adopted in Google Photos, if we are connected to an internet source of low power, our images will be loaded first with a lower quality. In this way we can still view them in the cloud, but as it becomes available a more powerful connection will be reloaded in their original format. Photos and videos in the new smaller format are anything but low quality, in fact, thanks to new compression algorithms used by Google, the media tend to lose very little quality, at least for viewing on mobile devices. Obviously if we want to edit and process the image with some professional tool, or simply display it on a 65-inch screen, we will have to wait for the loading of the image in its full version.
