Pebble has released a new firmware of its smartwatch and new iOS version of the app dedicated to its wearable devices, through which removes the dependence of these devices from the cloud services. It is a necessary move to ensure the operation of the Pebble even after the end of 2017, when Fitbit off all kind of services dedicated to the online platform.
When Fitbit Pebble acquired for $ 23 million in 2016 soon made to know that the support of online services for the smartwatch company would be finished at the end of 2017. To avoid making unusable Pebble already purchased by users, the company now released this update that removes the dependency of the device from the cloud services.
This means that the Pebble devices will continue to operate independently from online services, taking advantage of the direct connection with the iPhone and its iOS app. At the moment it is still unclear as Pebble possibly continue to manage the cloud-based features such as data recovery in-app and text communications. The app update also removes the ability to contact support.
