Particle Cloud is the easiest and fastest way to get IoT solutions. The cloud platform and connectivity hardware are perfect for both the first prototype and production applications. The connection of the Raspberry Pi to the Particle Cloud provides some interesting features for the construction of many projects.

INTRODUCTION

The Raspberry Pi is a low-cost, perhaps the most popular, single-board computer in the world. It is a powerful development tool for creating IoT projects. Connecting the Pi card to the Particle Cloud allows simple design of IoT solutions. Enrollment enables the user to download the free software package to connect the Raspberry Pi to the Cloud. Installation is fast and intuitive for a variety of applications. Through IDE Particle Web you can simulate Arduino code for programming the Raspberry Pi card. With Particle for Raspberry Pi you can program in C / C ++ to perform simple operations such as flashing a LED or reading sensors. It is possible to safely save all the updates and reprogram the various Pi cards inside the Web ID. Other properties are:

  • Batch Script Execution: Run remotely custom scripts on groups of Raspberry Pi.
  • Remote Data Collection: Collect and Publish Data to Particle Cloud.
  • Integrations: Advanced features with IFTTT, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure.

A IOT PROJECT WITH PI

Security is fundamental in everyday life and work, and having a room to capture intruder images in a particular room can be of great help in securing various objects. This project includes a PIR motion sensor, a camera, and a LED module that lights up to capture intruder images automatically, posting all the photos on the web later.

The raspberry Pi camera is an 8 megapixel high quality Sony IMX219 image sensor tailored for Raspberry Pi with a fixed focus lens. It is capable of capturing static images of 3280 x 2464 pixels, including video with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 x 10bpp at 30 fps. The Pi board controls the PIR sensor to detect movement within its field of view. If something is detected, module LED rings are turned on and illuminate the scene so you can capture intruders in both bright and dark environments. The camera takes a photo and uses Pi's Internet connection to upload the file to the Dropbox personal folder. To connect the Raspberry Pi to the Particle Cloud, you need to install Particle Agent: a software service that runs in the background on the Raspberry Pi and allows you to write and run the firmware (the software that interacts with the GPIO GP pin).

CONCLUSIONS

Most Raspberry Pi projects have the goal of connecting various devices and controlling them remotely. Particle is a Web service that helps make this process a bit easier with a beta program that is added to Raspberry Pi. Particle is essentially a cloud server that stores data and scripts that allow you to control a Remote Raspberry Pi. This essentially eliminates the need to start a server for a number of projects. Once you sign up for the beta, you will have access to a number of libraries to facilitate programming. The Particle Mother House also has development boards such as Photon and Electron which we will look into in a forthcoming review.
