Not that there were hopes for the future of Pebble, but in the last hour there have been a (further) signal that reminds us of his imminent demise. The company was in fact acquired by Fitbit in late 2016, leading to the abandonment of the design and construction of smartwatch so appreciated in the global market by a large number of fans.
The official app for iOS has received an update (version 4.4) and Android through which the Pebble smartwatch will be permanently disconnected from the cloud services. There was to be expected, considering the fact that Jon Barlow had said in December that the development team would soon made several changes in order to ensure the proper functioning of the system, making it independent of the services provided via the cloud, including Pebble Health.
The news are thus two, a good and a "less good": the first - the good one - is that all of smartwatch Pebble owners can continue to access the services offered, the less good - or maybe bad - is that services cloud via Pebble close definitively. As said, it was to be expected.
The smartwatch will therefore continue to operate properly, regardless of the company's online servers: for example, if you can not reach an authentication server, the app also will allow the device to continue operating jumping log.
IOS users can update the Pebble app directly from the App Store, while users enrolled in the beta program can download the update from the Pebble beta channel. The Android app will be made available shortly on the Play Store.
