Google provides Firebase servers for developers who need cloud solutions to store resources and information for users of their applications. It is a great outlet for those who can not afford this infrastructure and want something functional and safe.
However, the negligence of some developers when setting up their database in Firebase has created a big problem. As a result, both iOS and Android applications using Google's cloud service exposed user data stored in 2,200 vulnerable databases.
An Appthority survey indicates that 113 GB of data from 3,046 applications using Firebase were vulnerable. Of these apps, 600 are iOS and another 2,246 from Android.
According to Google, the problem lies in the nonchalance of the developers.
According to experts, the leaked information contains 26 million user names and passwords in text format, over 4 million records of protected health information, 25 million GPS records, data from 50,000 financial transactions (including bitcoins) and 4.5 million data Facebook user and business LinkedIn - over 100 million registration total.
Faced with the controversy generated by this revelation, Google has exposed itself and has stated that it has published an alert on the configuration page of each database when it is configured in an insecure manner and sends an email notification to the developer.
